About the Project

I and some of my friends from the lab joined this global hackathon with over 600 teams around the world, over the course of 2 days. The hackathon was on using LeRobot's SO-101 robots and we chose to work with Hugging Face's new Vision-Language-Action (VLA) called SmolVLA trained upon open-source collective data.

We decided to utilize two SmolVLA models for multi-robot collaboration task: pick-transfer-and-place. We fine-tuned the models using imitation learning, with a major focus on clean, robust data collection and training pipeline, especially to improve success rates for the task, and coordinating the object handover timings between the two robots.

We ended up winning BRONZE (20th global rank) globally and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) prize in the event at the Daegu center. You can read more at: newslink and huggingface.
